Your First Visit

The key to having a beautiful smile and outstanding oral health begins with a thorough examination. It takes more than a quick 5 minute check–up in the hygiene room to keep you healthy for a lifetime. Your initial examination will focus on more than just “cavities”. Dr. Logan will comprehensively evaluate your entire oral health system  from four different perspectives – all of which effect the longevity and beauty of your smile. He will assess:

Smile Analysis – Dr. Logan will document and photograph your smile to know where you are at this point in your life. For patients wanting a more beautiful smile, it will allow him to create beauty based on your desires. He will also have records of your smile in case you are ever in an accident!

Soft Tissue Analysis – Dr. Logan will do an Oral cancer screening of the tissues of the neck and mouth. The numbers are staggering. According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, more than 34,000 people in the United States will be diagnosed with oral or pharyngeal cancer this year. What is more frightening is only half of those diagnosed will be alive in five years. The good news is that most oral cancers can be cured if they are detected early.

Functional Analysis – Are your teeth worn? Have you cracked or broken  teeth? Do your jaws pop or click? Do you get headaches? Dr. Logan will evaluate your temporomandibular joints (TMJ’s), the muscles that allow them to work and the function of your teeth (occlusion). Often, by improving how a tooth contacts other teeth, many of these symptoms can be avoided before they become a concern.

Dental Analysis – Dr. Logan will examine each tooth individually for signs of disease. Dr. Logan utilizes the latest in technology and high magnification to properly examine your mouth.

Periodontal (gum) analysis – Your gums will be evaluated for any signs of periodontal disease and digital x-rays will be taken to reveal any bone loss. If periodontal disease is detected, we will develop an individualized treatment plan to eliminate the bacteria associated with gum disease and promote healing of the gums around the tooth.
